7 Ways to Deal with Change When It Happens To You

The one thing you can be sure about is that change is going to happen and that’s especially true right now with state of the world.

No matter what you do in life, change is the one certainty you can count on. However, some people have a hard time dealing with change…even when it’s self-induced.It makes them uncomfortable and can cause anxiety.

If you have issues dealing with change these ways to deal with change better will change your life.

  1. Accept That Changes is Inevitable – No matter how well your life is planned, change is going to happen. You’re going to experience changes in your life from job changes, school issues, having kids, not having kids, getting pets, moving to a new house, and more.
  2. All Types of Change Can Cause Stress – Whether change is good or not, it can produce a lot of anxiety. Many people struggle with all forms of change by feeling out of control. You can bring back more control by understanding that it’s okay to be out of sorts when there is a lot of change happening.
  3. Stick to Some of Your Schedule When You Can – Depending on what is happening that is causing the change it can help you to ground yourself by continuing to stick to as much of your schedule as possible.
  4. Eat as Healthy as Possible – It might seem like a small thing, but how you eat can make a huge difference in your ability to handle change. Keeping your diet as healthy as possible can help you avoid more problems with your digestion that can happen with additional anxiety.
  5. Get Some Exercise and Stay Hydrated – Depending on how busy this change makes you don’t skip your exercise and drink plenty of water. If you are super busy, you may need to change what you do a little but keep doing things that make you healthy.
  6. Talk to A Friend or Mentor – It’s always good to blow off steam when you’re feeling pressured by change. You don’t want to be uber negative, especially if your change is positive, but you do want to talk to people so that you can stay grounded.
  7. Keep a Journal – If the change is causing you a lot of fear and uncertainty consider keeping a journal about it so that you can process what is happening. Sometimes reading those entries a year later can be very hopeful and calming. Mostly because you can see a clear line to successfully navigating change by reliving your experiences. It’ll make it easier next time.

No matter how well you plan your life, change is going to happen. When you look back on your life just a few years ago, you see clearly that change is just part of life. However, stress still causes anxiety for many people whether it’s a small change, a large change, or even if it’s positive.

You can lessen your anxiety associated with change by coming to accept that it’s just part of life. By doing this, you can be more proactive in your decision-making during times of significant change.
